WCAG Contrast Standards
The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) define minimum contrast ratios to ensure text is readable by people with visual impairments. There are two levels:
- AA (minimum): Normal text requires a contrast ratio of at least 4.5:1. Large text (18px bold or 24px regular) requires at least 3:1.
- AAA (enhanced): Normal text requires at least 7:1. Large text requires at least 4.5:1.
The maximum possible contrast ratio is 21:1 (black on white or vice versa). Use this tool to test your hex color text combinations before implementing them in your designs.
